Madrigals have been heralded as the most quintessential musical genre of the Italian Renaissance. Yet, especially during the early development of the genre, many Italian madrigals were composed by immigrants from outside the Italian speaking regions — France, the Flanders, and Germany among many other places. In this concert “Imported Treasures”, Schola Cantorum will feature a bouquet of these works that outline the development of madrigals. Featured composers include Arcadelt, Gabrieli (both Andrea and Giovanni), Lasso, Schütz, Verdelot, Wert, Willaert, and Wilbye.
